Images from the Internet

Images on the internet are typically owned by someone. This means you typically do NOT have right to use such images without first paying for them.

There are services like istockphoto.com or dollarphotoclub.com where you can purchase pictures for a few dollars and use them.

Many people want their blog posts to look nice, so they use pictures. This is great, but do not steal them. Make sure you pay for them. If you did/do steal images, you might get a letter from companies like gettyimages.com, demanding damages of $1,000 and up.

You should know that these letters are because of images you posted, not us. We always pay for the rights to use any image we post on your website.

We are not attorneys, and we cannot give legal advice on this matter.

However, we have been told by a client that this attorney, Oscar Michelen (here is this attorney’s email  digitalimagelitigation@gmail.com), will write a letter on your behalf and send it to the demanding company to defend you and that they do not take action beyond that.

We have never used him, we do not know him and we do not know if this is true or not. We are simply sharing what one of our clients did when presented with a demanding letter.

We suggest, of course, paying for the images in the first place and never getting one of these demanding letters.

Happy Blogging!
